Morphfolia - 100 Downloads in 2 Weeks

Well aren't I a happy-chappy.  After putting Morphfolia up on CodePlex just over two weeks ago I'm trilled to see 103 downloads!  I didn't really have any idea how it would go.  I published the project on Thursday night (Nov 19th - NZ time), and then had a check in the morning to see if anyone had downloaded it - I was expecting 2 if I was lucky; what did I see?  42 Downloads OMFG.

As it stands, every 1 in 4 visitors is downloading it (wow).  I'm keeping an eye on the discussions (etc) but nothing yet - so either:

  • No ones using it (cuase it sucks - very unlikely I hope)
  • No ones using it because they're too busy (highly likely)
  • No one is having any problems (yeah right)

I wait with baited breath.

One thing I've had to think about is where Morphfolis content and support lives; I'll use CodePlex as the main "operational" center for downloads and support (specifically issue tracking and discussions), and I'll be using www.morphological.geek.nz as the main center for everything else, including detailed docs.  There's clearly a place for that on CodePlex too - I'm going to see how this plays out for now.  Whilst CodePlex has some great functionality my own site will naturally give me more flexibility if I need it.

With this in mind, I was careful to link back from the morphfolia.codeplex.com 'home' page to the rich content I already had; I've definately had an increase in traffic to me site, and it's been very interesting looking at the individual user sessions to get an idea of what content people gravitate to and how long they spend reading it.  It has also increased my desire to build a companion BI tool to help site owners analyse the Http Logs off-line.
